Our History

Our History

1905

KOKUYO was founded in 1905 by Zentaro Kuroda, which marked the beginning of retail outlets specializing in the sale of Zentaro Japanese-style account book ledger.

1927

Collaborating with renowned Japanese painters on a new product innovation, KOKUYO begins to add designs and illustrations to its stationary.

1950

KOKUYO’s first commercial dealer was established in Tokyo.

1960

In 1960, KOKUYO introduced the document filing cabinet, and in 1961 it released the card filing cabinet.

1969

The construction of the Osaka head office completed this year. Work areas were open to viewing, to show the public how this steel furniture com- pany was being transformed into a full-product office furni- ture company.

1983

Biotech office swivel chair was put on sales.

2008

The Live Office in Shinagawa, designed on the basis of the concepts of “eco-friendliness” and “creativity” formally opens in Shinagawa. Incorporates equipment, products and software which reduce carbon dioxide emissions by means of various design innovations.

2008-2010

In 2008, KOKUYO becomes a sponsor of the Beijing Olympics.

In 2010, KOKUYO becomes
a participant in the Japanese Industrial Hall at the Shanghai Expo.

2012

Founded Singapore first
ever Showroom cum LIVE office. Opening of Shanghai Flagship Showroom in the heart of the city.

Started Creative Lounge MOV at Shibuya. A co-sharing workspace.

2013

Opening of Jakarta KOKUYO Showroom.

2015

The merger of KOKUYO
Stationery and Furniture business.
